Engineering Springs That Strengthen India’s Railway Backbone
Delivering precision, consistency and controlled manufacturing for railway bogie and freight applications.
Who We Are
Cosmic Springs & Engineers Limited (CSEL) is a key company within the Cosmic Birla Group, a diversified industrial group with a strong presence across engineering, castings, electric mobility and manufacturing solutions. Guided by a legacy of operational discipline and continuous innovation, the Group serves India’s core industries with high-quality, process-driven products.
As part of this ecosystem, CSEL specializes in the manufacturing of hot-coiled helical springs used in a wide range of railway bogie and freight applications. Leveraging the Group’s engineering culture and technical depth, we produce springs that meet the mechanical, dimensional and fatigue requirements expected in railway suspension systems — including High Speed, LWLH, CONCOR, CASNUB and RAFTAR bogies.
Our integrated facility brings together material testing, coiling, heat treatment, grinding, shot peening and final inspection under one roof, enabling controlled production and consistent quality across every batch.
Our Purpose - To engineer springs that deliver strength, reliability and stability in critical railway applications.
We combine technical expertise with disciplined manufacturing practices to produce springs that uphold performance consistency even under high dynamic loads and challenging operating conditions.
FROM THE DIRECTOR’S DESK
At the Cosmic Birla Group, our mission has always been to build industries that strengthen India’s core infrastructure while upholding uncompromising standards of quality and integrity. With Cosmic Springs & Engineers Limited, we are extending this commitment into a highly critical domain—railway suspension components that directly influence the safety, performance and reliability of the nation’s freight movement.
CSEL represents more than a manufacturing unit; it stands for disciplined engineering, transparent processes and a culture of continuous improvement. Railway springs demand precision, metallurgy, and repeatability at a level that leaves no room for error. Our focus is to ensure that every spring we produce reflects these values—controlled in process, consistent in performance and dependable in the field.
As India continues expanding its freight capabilities, the expectation from suppliers is no longer limited to meeting specifications; it is about delivering predictability, lifecycle value and long-term reliability. We are investing in technology, people and operational systems that enable CSEL to meet this responsibility with confidence and clarity.
Our vision is to see CSEL evolve into a benchmark manufacturer for railway-grade springs—one that customers can trust for quality, delivery, and engineering excellence. Together, with the strength of the Cosmic Birla Group, we are building a foundation designed for scale, resilience and sustained national contribution.

Full In-House Capabilities for Railway-Grade Spring Manufacturing
Our integrated production facility gives us complete control over every stage of spring manufacturing.
From raw material preparation to coiling, heat treatment, surface enhancement and final inspection, we deliver railway-grade springs engineered for consistency, durability and performance.
We begin with high-grade alloy spring steel that undergoes straightening, peeling and centreless grinding to remove surface defects and achieve uniformity. Bars are crack-tested and cut to precise lengths as per the required spring design.
Each bar end is tapered and stamped hot with essential identification marks such as manufacturing month, year, grade and spring code. This ensures traceability throughout the product lifecycle and adherence to railway compliance expectations.
Springs are coiled at controlled temperatures to achieve the exact coil count, free height, inner/outer diameter and helix geometry. This stage defines the mechanical characteristics of the spring and is monitored closely for dimensional accuracy.
After coiling, springs undergo oil quenching followed by tempering to achieve the required hardness, toughness and fatigue strength. Our controlled heat-treatment cycle enhances durability and ensures the spring performs reliably under repeated loads.
Ends are ground flat to ensure proper seating during load application. Shot peening is performed to induce beneficial compressive stresses, significantly improving fatigue life and reducing failure risk in demanding railway environments.
Each spring is load-tested, dimensionally inspected, and checked for surface integrity using magnetic crack detection. Only springs meeting all technical and visual parameters proceed to final grouping, painting and dispatch.
